What is the most frightened is the way they see themselves. They think they are sexy ao attractive, indeed. But when they look at their reflections in the mirror, they do NOT see what we do. The do NOT see those bones, veins, lack of muscles.
I know it from my own experience. Although I’m a guy, but it doesn’t make any difference in case of anorexia. People I haven’t seen for a couple of months used to say to me: “God, just look how thin you are!”. This words were the only thing able to bring a smile on my sad face. Because I was sad, unhappy and, well, miserable.
Now it is behind me. Well, to be honest, in fact anorexia does never end. You can stop it, but it is crouching somwhere on the back of your head all the time, waiting for your bad mood, anger and every other negative feeling.
But there is one thing I’m pretty sure of. I DO NOT want it to return. It was the worst time of my life. The worst ever!

It’s amazing how ignorant people can be of mental illnesses and eating disorders. I am not anorexic, but I have had friends who are anorexic or bulimic, and they do not think that they are sexy–in fact, when they look in the mirror, they think that they are ugly and fat. Body dysmorphia is part of the disease; these girls don’t think that they are sexy. Maybe by smiling, they are trying to hide the anguish within. And to call them stupid is stupid in and of itself; don’t make unfounded, ignorant statements. To agree with “Shely,” don’t judge these girls without doing some research. Better yet, don’t judge them at all.

I imagine it makes somebody feel better about themselves to judge others. Well, stop it. I was anorexic many yers ago and can tell you first hand, we dont think we are “sexy”. It’s a cover-up for the basic feelings of deep, deep-seated frustration and insecurity, which results in a skewed perspective.

I suppose you yourself, however, are perfect in every way.

Most of these girls DO NOT think they are sexy! You are not exactly intelligent regarding this subject, so you shouldn’t be writing about it. Many of them believe they are still fat, and few actually like the way they look. Do some research before you judge them. Perhaps you should look into your own problems, rather than sitting around all day collecting photos of anorexic girls and writing about them, just to make fun of them and call them stupid. Who needs help??

I am a graphic artist and my trained eye tells me that 75% these photos are manipulated fakes. I also dated an anorexic girl for a while who was sightly thinner than the naked girl on the sofa picture so I know what I’m talking about. There is a computer program called Photoshop that has a “shrink” button that lets you selectively shrink or “skinny-up” anything. It is impossible to detect when done subtly, but very apparent when overdone as in the photo “i think this girl is a fashion model”. I happen to love skinny/anorexic girls. I love their fragility and love the feel of their bones when we are in bed. It’s much better than flab.

I don’t know if these photos arefake or not. However it seems to me that it is very dangerous illness and we should talk about this becouse lots of people are not aware of consequences of stop eating ;( And I agree that we shouldn’t lough !!!

I think it is very ignorant to say anorexic girls are stupid to think they look sexy. The point is that anorexia is a serious mental disorder, the reason they think they are sexy is because they are in denial and suffering from delusions about their self image. This is caused by deep rooted problems with self esteem and self worth! This is often related to abuse as a child or other illnesses such as depression and it can be fatal for a lot of people. People who glorify anorexia or make fun of it should be ashamed of themselves.

I have struggled with anorexia for over ten years, and have known hundreds of women with eating disorders.
I have yet to meet a single one who thought she was sexy. Anorexics suffer from an incredibly low self-esteem, and many of them are embarassed by their thinness. It is a serious psychological disorder and really has little to do with the victim’s body at all. A person starts to have overwhelming feelings of guilt surrounding food and becomes obsessed with numbers (weight, calories, etc). Also, it has been proven that people with eating disorders are usually extremely bright and of above average intelligence, incredibly perfectionistic, and very competitive. THey tend to get excellent grades, excel in extracurricular activities, and achieve amazing things despite their condition.
Please try to get your facts straight before you come out to the public like you’re right…

this is an increibily simplistic understanding of what anorexia is. its not about appearance for many women. it’s about being able to enact rigid control over one area of our lives. it’s about wanting to be invisible because being “seen” might have meant being hurt by those closest to us. it’s about finding ways to voice pain when our words aren’t being heard.

attempting to convince young women that they look “ugly” because of their thiness hardly seems like an appropriate or supportive response to the concern you state that you feel. if it worked, i’m sure that the social pressure not to be overweight would have alleviated obesity as a problem huh.

The only thing stupid about this is that your calling anorexic girls stupid. Its a mental disease, and i’ve been through it. It took a lot of years for me to even get where im at now and it had NOTHING to do with me wanting to look “sexy” or “gorgeous.” I actually felt like complete shit no matter how much weight i lost. Anorexia is a psychiatric disorder yes, but those pictures, those girls didnt’t wake up and want to be liike that, they wanted to lose weight, so they dieted and started eating less and less to the point where they weren’t eating anything. And then when they got down to their goal weight something happend…they couldn’t stop…5 more lbs wont hurt right?

Yes; you are very right. The only thing I considered these girls stupid was the fact that they tried so hard not to eat anything and then, unfortunately, couldn’t stop this process and got sick. Nobody laughs of that, I say it again! But to me it is still stupid to try so hard not to eat and then loose control. I am only 12 but already I have been anorexic.
A yeasr ago my aunt died of anorexia, since I found out I wouldn’t eat. I didn’t think anything was wrong with me, after a while I would spend hours looking in the mirror trying to pull excess body fat to see how much I needed to loose. The rest of my time I spent exerciseing to try and loose the weight. I am still trying to overcome everything.
It made me cry to read what people have written about this, anorexia is a mental problem. The people who suffer from it are not stupid, and if you don’t know about it don’t comment on it.

Wolfey, I too absolutely love anorexic women. They are low energy and not anxious like other female types. Very relaxing. It is also nice to rub their bodies very gently with warm oil. THey love the praise. You can feel their bodies shapes and structure. Unless you’ve done it, you’d never know hot wonderful it is.

First of all,
The reasons behind this mental disorder are quite numerous, with the most common ones being the media and generally low self-esteem. Individuals with annorexia nervosa were first sucked into the idea of being thin because they are followers, (an unconcious, uncontrollable decision) they do not have individualistic ideas like many fortunate people do. I think this mental illness should be blamed mostly on the media, considering it was the fasion industry that brought about the idea of sickly skinny women being “beautiful” in the first place. We really do need to raise awareness of these various mental disorders, because they are claiming the lives of so many people. It would be nice to say that these people can recover, but at this point it is just not possible. Most individuals with the illness never fully recover. With that, I would like to say that these people should NOT be ecouraged to continue loosing weight and literally killing them selves, but should be encouraged to seek medical help immediately.

Ill or self obsessed, fat or skinny, mental or stupid, real or photoshopped, i dont give a toss.

My best friend has anorexia and I know from the permenant phone calls and tears that she hates herself and views her body as discgusting even though she is a very slim size 6. Although these pictures are very shocking I think that we are all making assumptions and chucking all people affected by eating disorders in the boat.
Fine some people might love their bodies even though they are ridiculously skinny but not all so please people don’t judge anorexics or bulimics by one articule and make up your descision for yourself.

I can not believe the comments on here… as a young woman struggling in recovery from anorexia - it appalls me that people think the anorexics are just stupid young girls who think they look sexy that way. I’d like you to step in their shoes for a day. Rarely do anorexics think they look good.. ever. Enter a treatment center and you will realize that what started as a diet to many of them became a life of horror and depression. Anorexia does inhibit brain power due to a lack of fat in the brain. Unfortunately this cannot often be reversed until they resume a healthy weight. Please, stop the awful comments.

I don’t see where you get off calling anorexic girls stupid. These girls are sick, not because they are stupid, but because they feel so pathetic and less than other people that they spend every moment worrying about every milligram of fat on there bodies and become deluded and stuck in the cycle. I know one of these girls, very shocked to find this site and see her, she is one of the smartest most well read and educated people i know. She’s a far site more intelligent than you are based upon your site, messages and blatantly obvious lack of research. She is stuck with this illness and i can see how much it frustrates her, its consumed her life and slowly killing her, your not helping. @ Jane Lane: I think you need to open your eyes. People do change themselves into what they believe they should be, regardless of whether they have an eating disorder or not. Furthermore, they aren’t stupid. Before making such claims, walk even a quarter miles in those shoes.

Also, not all anorexic sufferers are doing it to “fit in”. It’s not even always about control. Sometimes it’s stems from the way a person was raised. The fact that no one even tries to get to the bottom of their problems, preferring just to call them stupid for wanting to be their idea of beautiful, is horrifying.

I doubt you know what it’s like to look in the mirror an instead of seeing yourself, you see a monster, with no control, with so much fat on them it makes you almost want to vomit. I’ll repeat myself, it’s not to fit in. It’s not as simple for these people. Some have an outright fear of food, or gaining even the smallest amount of weight. You can’t just start eating, very unhealthy after being at such a low weight.

If you actually WANT to know what it feels like to have a disorder, read “Wasted” by Marya Hornbacher, and “More Than You Can Chew” by Marnelle Tokio. The ignorance from some of the people on this message board is just pathetic.

Well, its pretty much you remove these photos or her and I go to the police i suppose. Don’t really want to do this as i know its not your intention to cause this trouble, but that would be the next step.
There’s no reason for me to make this up. Replace the pictures with other girls or something, I don’t really care. Pictures 1 and 13 are taken about 2 years apart, hence the difference. Also you have shown doubt about your own pictures, showing that there’s the sliiightest possibility that you do not own them. No need to accept this comment either, just read it and act on it i reckon, i like the rest of your site and really don’t want to have to be a hassle. Whoever created this is seriously lacking intelligence. If you knew ANYTHING about anorexia beyond what you saw in those pictures, you would know that anorexia isn’t even about appearance. having just completed an exhaustive study of the innumerable causes of anorexia nervosa (as well as the other serious eating disorders) i am deeply troubled by your flouting of the fact that you are ridiculing these people. in most instances, anorexia itself is not done as a means of obtaining sexual appeal — most of the young girls who are afflicted with it are socially reticent, exceptionally withdrawn but intelligent individuals who harbor an immense amount of disgust and hate for themselves and for their bodies. in many of the causes or psychological preconditions of anorexia nervosa, there is a traumatic, shattering childhood experience (generally rape or molestation) that causes a detachment between the individual and their body, where the person separates themselves entirely from their corporeal frame and finds it an embittered enemy. for nearly a year and a half i have been struggling to assist my dearest personal friend with recovery from anorexia (leaving her nameless, she was victimized sexually by her grandfather as a child and has since come to view herself in the most loathsome light). sexual appeal is the last possible thing on her mind. most case studies undertaken reveal that physical “image” or body image issues are hardly the root cause of something so insidious. when people or websites espouse the notion that this is something that people undergo to whore themselves out to the male sex, they degrade what is a terrifying state of existence, deriding it to the point where these people are ridiculed in public (as in the case of my friend, who cannot go anywhere without being assailed with callous remarks). perpetuating that something as serious as anorexia nervosa is something which afflicts rich “white bitches” or naive teens is an incredible disservice, illustrative of the many disadvantages of letting any asshole have a website. you are categorically wrong in asserting that 99% of these people think they look good, horribly, horribly wrong. but what does it matter if you’re getting a cheap laugh out of it, right? people suffering from anorexia lose their menstrual periods, meaning their hormones rapidly decelerate and become non-existent (meaning that they have no sex drive whatsoever, and in the event they engage in it, it is excruciatingly painful for them). i don’t deny that there are some truly sick people who operate websites that allege anorexia to be a lifestyle choice (pro-ana sites), but the people who run these websites generally fail diagnostic criteria for anorexia (they allege to have it because they misconstrue it as being fashionable, “wannarexics” as my friend calls them). this represents a decidedly small fraction of the people who deal with this on a daily basis. flippantly scolding these people for being hideous does nothing but undermine the severity of the disorder, and can stall the seeking of treatment (for fear of castigation and ridicule at the behest of people who are so simple-minded as to think that this is all about fucking food). it is the manifestation of an unbearable amount of variants that happen to fall in line and lead to an eating disorder, some of which is genetically predisposed (and recent advances have proven that a genetic predisposition does exist for anorexia nervosa — meaning that the chances of it becoming a problem in your life varies greatly on whether or not anyone in your family has ever dealt with one…reliant on genetics, not the fucking golden globe awards). perhaps this is wasted energy in trying to convey to you the seriousness of all this, and how repugnant i find your treatment of it, but i am increasingly weary of the unbearable insensitivity and callow nature of people who treat something of this nature in such a way.

When I looked in a mirror I was disgusted at how horribly fat and uncontained I was yet when I looked at photos I was disguted at how thin and guant and sick I looked.

The illness has very little to do with food, weight or our bodies. It has far more to do with a complete hatred and self loathing that one has and essentially and Eating Disorder is a slow punishing death. We don’t do it because we enjoy it or think it’ll make boys like us… if anything I wanted to shrink and disappear and for no male to ever notice me in a womanly way ever again.

I am a researcher who has been working on Anorexia Nervosa and Pro-Anorexia for a year. I have been following this discussion for the better part of that year and contemplated suggesting that everyone who supports the original blog post read any literature on the subject to gain some perspective on how categorically wrong, strange offensive ALL of their views are and have been to the anorexic community of suffering and on the whole, very intelligent young men and women. However, I think its probably best just to comment that i have found the original post by Funner to be even more baffling and disturbing than any Anorexic or Pro-Anorexic material I have seen in my research. In my opinion, the original blong on this page is more harmful than anything else I have come across. I suggest you do your research and consider how little you know.

This is of course aside from the fact that almost all of your images have been photoshopped, you cant account for any of your sources, you are too cowardly to respond to those people who have come forward on this thread with genuine evidence to counter yours and your total lack of academic knowledge on the subject. Please dnt try to defend your self - at this stage, there’s very little point, and no one will be listening.
